Podcasting at Summer Institute, Kickin’ It Up, 2!

June 17, 2007

Well, during Summer Institute we had a GREAT class on Podcasting! It was a small group of teachers committed to integrating technology into their curriculum. They each posted a podcast up on their website welcoming their future students and their parents for the upcoming school year. They described expectations and outcomes, as well as summer work or other things to look forward to in the class.

But we had an excellent discussion about how to use this technology in their classrooms during the year, with the students. Podcasts can be used for mastery, for student products, and classroom newsletters. They can be teacher-created, student-created, group-created, or individual projects. In all cases, the process of creating these is the prize, with student engagement and student learning the focus.

We had a great week. You can listen to the podcasts created by these teachers: Carrie Beaudoin, Heidi Befort, Bill Watters, and Lorraine Burke. Carrie has a Student Created Podcast as well. Lorraine did another one, too for her 9th graders summer reading. 🙂
